General

  • How long will it take to receive my bit?

Our bits are extremely popular and so our in-stock items change very rapidly. If your bit is available in our office, we can have it shipped to you within 5 business days of your order. If your bit is not available in stock, we place an order with the manufacturer who then ships it to us. Bombers can take about 6-8 weeks after we order from them before they ship it to us (each bit is handmade individually!).

If you would like to check the availability of a specific bit before ordering, please email us and we will be happy to help!

At this time, we order from the manufacturers every Friday.

  • I don't see the bit I want on your site! Can you get it in for me?

We can order any bit that our manufacturers make! However if it is not on our website, the bit may not be available for a trial period or refund. Please check with us if you are unsure.

  • Do you sell used bits?

Yes we do. Our used stock is very limited however, and once it's gone, it's gone!

  • Do you accept trade in bits?

Yes we accept some bits in as trade ins. The bits must be in very good condition and from one of the brands we already sell. We can't take in synthetic or leather mouthpieces, and some styles of bit are not accepted based on their resale-ability. Check out our Trade In page for more details!

Bit Trials

  • How do your bit trials work?

You can take most of our bits on trial for 30 days, but only those that have metal mouthpieces; any bits that have a synthetic or leather mouthpiece are final sale due to how easily damaged they can be from horses chomping away at them. There is a $26.50 CAD fee for the trial period, which must be selected when adding the bit to your cart.

Some bits are not available for trial due to a mouthpiece or cheekpiece style.

Your trial period begins once you have received all the bits in your order, to allow you time to compare them against one another. Once this period begins, you have 30 days to request a return if you feel that any of the bits are not suitable. If you need an extension to this 30 days, you will need to request that from [email protected] in advance of your trial period ending.

At the end of this 30 days, you either keep the bit(s) or return them to us for a refund. Your trial fee is deducted from the refund amount.

Trial bits MUST be returned to us clean and undamaged! If not, a $25 CAD fee will be deducted from the refund of your original purchase price.

  • How do I receive a free bit trial?

If you complete a virtual or in-person bit consultation with Abby, the trial fee for any recommended bits is waived. You can schedule a virtual or in-person consultation through our online booking system, found here: Bit Consultations

Consultations

  • How do I book a consultation?

You can schedule a virtual or in-person consultation through our online booking system, found here: bitbarn.ca/consultations/

  • How does an in-person consultation work?

There is a $100 CAD (or $85 USD) fee for an in-person consultation, due at the time of scheduling. All consult fees must be paid at the time of booking, otherwise your consult request will not be accepted. Cancellations are accepted up to 48 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment; after 48 hours, you may reschedule the appointment or forfeit the deposit fee.

Abby will meet you and/or your trainer at your barn to examine your horse and review their experience personally. During your in-person consultation, Abby will discuss with you your riding discipline, your goals, your horse's symptoms, your current bit/bridle set up, etc. She will measure your horse's mouth and examine their oral anatomy to determine what elements will affect your bitting experience. Based on those findings, she will recommend some options that she feels will work best for you and your horse and trial them with you on the spot. Please be prepared to ride/work your horse!

Should you choose to purchase a bit based off of your consultation, you will receive a FREE 30 day trial on that bit to ensure it is a good fit for you and your horse.

  • How does a virtual consultation work?

You will receive a Zoom invitation for your virtual consultation in advance of your scheduled day and time. During your appointment, Abby will discuss with you your riding discipline, your goals, your horse's symptoms, your current bit/bridle set up, etc. She will walk you through how to collect the appropriate measurements of your horse's mouth and current bit, and walk you through how to take the required photos. Based on those findings, she will recommend some options that she feels will work best for you and your horse.

Should you choose to purchase a bit based off of your consultation, you will receive a FREE 30 day trial on that bit to ensure it is a good fit for you and your horse.
